LA Tenorio bags third Finals MVP

Having a bum right elbow could not stop LA Tenorio in the epic seven-game series between bitter rivals Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and Meralco Bolts. And with his inspired performance, the 12-year league veteran was adjudged as the Finals MVP of the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup.

“Actually, I still have to go to surgery tomorrow morning. Nakita ko yung teammates ko nagsasakripisyo rin, nakita ko yung mga fans din nagsasakripisyo, hindi ko na naiisip yung sakit,” said Tenorio.

After averaging 11.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.3 steals in the first six games of the series, the 33-year-old floor general capped the series with 26-point, four-assist outing in Ginebra’s 101-96 title-clinching win.

“Binigay namin ang lahat, lahat kami nag-sakripisyo. Alam namin na mahirap kalaban yung Meralco,” he added.

Tenorio, a three-time champion, won the Finals MVP crown in all three of his championship wins. Back in 2010, he won the Fiesta Cup Finals MVP with Alaska while also bringing home the same trophy a season ago with Ginebra after helping end the franchise’s eight-year title drought.

Now, Tenorio has the time to have his long-delayed surgery.

“Tulad ng sabi ko bukas na lang kami magpapahinga.”
