La Salle’s Mbala cops Premier Cup Player of the Week crown

De La Salle University center Ben Mbala was named Freego Best Player of the Week for leading the Green Archers to two huge victories in the FilOil Flying V Premier Cup for the period of May 16-21, 2016.

The Green Archers defeated the Mapua Institute of Technology Cardinals, 93-76, and the San Beda College Red Lions, 94-85, for an immaculate 4-0 record in the tournament making them the last unbeaten squad. The Cameroonian center averaged 27.5 points and 19.0 rebounds in the two matches.

“Ben gives our team a lot of flexibility,” said La Salle head coach Aldin Ayo. “With him in the middle, he helps control the inside and with his rebounding and defense, he helps us get out on the fastbreak.”

On the other end, Mbala was also named Gatorade Defensive Player of the Week with 10.0 defensive rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 4.0 blocks in a solid defensive effort.
