Kungfu Reyes will not be present during Chery Tiggo’s final game in the semifinal phase of the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.
The Crossovers’ game against the Creamline Cool Smashers is scheduled at 4:00 PM at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Instead, the hard-working tactician will be with the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses for their UAAP Season 86 Women’s Volleyball Final Four match against the De La Salle University Lady Archers at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
First serve for the UAAP game takes place at 6:00 PM.
Last March 16, the Army personnel was able to coach both Chery Tiggo and UST despite the PVL game being held in Laguna as there was a delay in the start time of the UAAP tilt at MOA Arena.
That would not be possible this time around.
The Crossovers have been eliminated from finals contention, having gone 0-2 and racking up no points in their first two games in the phase.
Still, Chery Tiggo can play spoilers to Creamline’s title defence bid if they win by three or four sets while Petro Gazz beats Choco Mucho in the same manner.
Brian Esquibel will take charge of the Crossovers in this contest.
On the other hand, UST is looking to vanquish La Salle as the Lady Spikers need to beat the Golden Tigresses twice.
The Golden Tigresses have gotten the better of the Lady Spikers in the elimination round. And Reyes is relishing every opportunity he gets when he faces the legendary Ramil de Jesus.
“Uulit-ulitin ko lang na player pa lang ako, Coach Ramil na ‘yan. Wala naman kaming ibang nilo-look up kundi si Coach Ramil kasi ang ganda ng program nila,” he said.
“Hindi ko naman binibilang kung ilang beses na naming tinalo sila (De Jesus at La Salle) kasi hindi naman ‘to paramihan ng ganito o ganyan. Ang (pinapahalagahan) ko kasi, ‘yung moment na makaharap ko si Coach Ramil.”
