University of Santo Tomas head coach Kung Fu Reyes already ruled out Imee Hernandez in the Golden Tigresses’ next match against University of the East, Thursday.
The 21-year-old middle blocker had to be carried off the court after hurting her left ankle from a bad fall in the opening set.
Hernandez did not return to the match.
“Swollen agad yung injury niya. Bad landing lang siya kasi mag-isa siya e,” said Reyes in the post-game interview.
Reyes is hoping that Hernandez’s injury is just a Grade One ankle sprain. Moreover, he is looking to have the 5-foot-9 Hernandez back against University of the Philippines next week, Tuesday.
“Ano naman, hopefully grade one lang yung sprain and makabalik siya.
“Hopefully by next week kasi yung Sabado medyo suntok sa buwan na pero nandiyan naman yung mga strength and conditioning coaches namin saka yung physical therapist,” he added.
In Hernandez’s absence, the Golden Tigresses leaned on Eya Laure and Camille Victoria as they ran away with a 25-23, 25-20, 25-21 sweep in the opening match of the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Laure delivered 14 points while Victoria had 12 markers. Hernandez, on the other hand, contributed four points before the injury.
UST will go up against University of the East on Saturday at 6:00 PM and then University of the Philippines on Tuesday at 10:00AM.
