Chery Tiggo head coach Kungfu Reyes reminded his wards to stay in the moment to battle complacency ahead of their critical match-up against Galeries Tower in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.
The Crossovers are currently in the middle of a heated semifinals race, where they are tied with defending champion Creamline, Choco Mucho, and Petro Gazz at the top spot with identical 8-2 records.
Chery Tiggo is set to battle the Highrisers on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at the Philsports Arena in a bid to strengthen their chances of entering the semifinals.
Reyes said that the Crossovers, who have defeated three out of the four teams still in the semifinals race, must respect their upcoming opponent and, of course, themselves to avoid complacency ahead of their important match.
“Gaya ng sinabi ni Eya kanina, nire-remind namin sila from time to time. ‘Yun nga, binibigay namin ‘yung respeto para doon sa nagiging kalaban namin, at magiging kalaban,” said Reyes after their win over Akari.
“Pero ang sa amin, ‘yung respeto namin sa sarili namin, ‘yung respeto namin sa team, ‘yung demand ng team na kailangan namin ibigay, ‘yun ‘yung pinaka-baseline lagi namin para hindi kami naliligaw,” added the veteran coach.
Chery Tiggo picked up an important win after sweeping the Chargers, 25-17, 25-20, 25-17, in their penultimate assignment in the elimination round on Saturday at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex.
It was another dominant outing for the Crossovers, with six players scoring seven or more points led by Eya Laure’s 14-point performance.
Ara Galang added nine points while team captain Aby Marano, Mylene Paat, EJ Laure, and Cza Carandang chipped in seven points each in the win.
“Tsaka ang gamot lang naman sa nakakalimot is paalala. We just keep on reminding them na, ‘What’s important now is just to be at the moment’, kasi hindi pa tapos ang laro at lahat ng mga ‘to gusto manalo,” said Reyes.
“That’s why, again, ‘yung respeto namin sa kalaban namin at para sa amin, ‘yun lagi ang nire-remind namin para sa kanila.”
