Korea to skip FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers second window, cites safety concerns

Korea will not participate in the second window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.

According to a report by Naver’s Min Joon-gu, Korea’s basketball federation, the KBA, has decided that Bahrain is “not a safe zone for COVID-19.”

“Considering the safety of the national team, I thought it was right not to go to Bahrain,” a KBA official told the publication.

Korea was supposed to take on the Philippines on the 27th, and Indonesia on the 30th in a bubble in Manama, Bahrain.

Korea is on top of Group A with a 2-0 record.

On the other hand, Gilas (1-0) has yet to gain clearance from the Interagency Task Force to train inside a bubble in Calamba, Laguna.
