Kevin Belingon wants to make return at ONE: Infinity 1 against John Lineker

It has been a while since fans last saw former ONE Bantamweight World Champion Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon in the ONE Championship Circle. If things go well, though, it will not be long before he marks his return.

A few months after losing to reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes at ONE: Century Part II, Belingon has his sights on ONE Infinity 11 on May 29 at the Mall Of Asia Arena.

“My target, hopefully, is the May event here in the Philippines. That is what I am looking at,” Belingon said.

“Now, I am focused on the ground game and my wrestling. Of course, I won’t relax on my specialty either — my striking. But then again, reviewing my match with Bibiano, I am really lacking on the ground and wrestling, so that’s what I am looking at right now.”

Depending on how the world contains the COVID-19 pandemic, the event could be the first time in nearly three months where fans will be allowed inside a ONE event.

The next four events will take place in Singapore behind closed doors, and Belingon has no problems even if that extends to Manila in May.

“I think that’s the best way to do it,” Belingon said.

“If it’s in closed doors, but it’s live, then fans can still tune in and enjoy. This is the best move from ONE, a very good decision.”

With his eyes on the prize, the Kiangan, Ifugao native knows that he has to come up with an impressive performance to fast-track his return to contender status.

While he has a lot of options in the division, he has a particular target in mind right now.

“There are a lot of names in the bantamweight division. Whoever they give me, I’ll take them on. The most important thing is to get back to my winning ways and compete for the title once more. That’s the goal — to get back on top and get the belt,” Belingon said.

“It will be exciting if they give me John Lineker — it will be a very good match. You see how he fights? He has excellent striking, and he’s really good. So if we cross paths, it will be a barn-burner for sure.”
