After suffering three lopsided losses, NCAA Season 95 Seniors Basketball hosts Arellano University Chiefs refused to taste defeat once more, romping the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 86-77, Friday evening at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
This is Arellano’s first win in four outings. And it’s because of the early surge provided by Kent Salado.
Salado, who tore his ACL a year ago, led Arellano’s attack with 24 points and 11 assists.
“Medyo nabawasan ng konti [yung tinik sa dibdib],” said Arellano coach Cholo Martin. “It’s still a long way, we can still improve and I’ve been telling them that if we want something, we have to work hard. Di pwede mag-give up kami.”
With EAC threatening to make a late rally, cutting a once 16-point lead down to just 10 with under two minutes left, Salado and Marlon Espiritu connected on cold-blooded buckets to break the Generals’ hopes.
Archie Concepcion added 14 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks for Arellano while Dariel Bayla tallied 11 points and 13 rebounds.
JP Maguliano’s 26-point, 14-rebound outing went for naught.
Meanwhile, EAC dropped to 1-4.
Arellano looks to make it two in a row when it faces the Perpetual Altas on Tuesday, July 30 at 2:00 pm. EAC, on the other hand, goes on the road on Thursday against JRU.
