KBL: Abarrientos, Ulsan Hyundai inch closer to semis

RJ Abarrientos and Ulsan Hyundai Mobis cruised past Goyang, 86-71, to open the best-of-five quarterfinals of the 2023 Korean Basketball League playoffs, Sunday at Ulsan Dongchun Gymnasium.

Game 2 is on Tuesday.

The winner of the series will face Rhenz Abando and Anyang KGC in another best-of-five series.

Abarrientos, the reigning Rookie of the Year, tallied nine points — all from deep — with five assists and three rebounds.

Seo Myeongjin paced Ulsan with 18 points and five assists while Jam Jihoon went a perfect 7-of-7 from the field for 16 points.

Gaige Prim also logged a double-double for the fourth seeds with 13 points and 14 rebounds.

The Orange Jumpers were led by Lee Junghyun and Dedric Lawson, who tallied 21 and 20 points, respectively.
