Kai Sotto watches Ateneo-UP game

The country’s biggest basketball prospect is witnessing the biggest Battle of Katipunan in years.

Kai Sotto, the 7-foot-2 center who put his name in the NBA Draft, was in attendance as the University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University battled it out in the second round of the UAAP Season 84 Men’s Basketball Tournament, Sunday evening, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The erstwhile Ateneo High School standout watched two teams that involved his Gilas Pilipinas colleagues such as coach Tab Baldwin, rival and friend Carl Tamayo, and naturalized big man Ange Kouame.

Sotto watched as the Fighting Maroons looked to end the Blue Eagles’ 39-game winning streak in the UAAP.

In an alternate timeline, he could have been one of the stars on the floor. Now, though, he is looking to go where no homegrown Filipino has gone before – the NBA.
