The stars are starting to align for Gilas Pilipinas in their upcoming campaign in the 2023 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers’ fourth window.
Kai Sotto has committed to the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, confirming his participation in Gilas’ games against Lebanon on the 25th in Beirut and against Saudi Arabia on the 29th at home.
The 7-foot-3 big man will arrive on Thursday, August 18.
“We are glad to have Kai into the Gilas fold and thank him for his proactive response to the call to play for flag and country for the August Qualifiers,” said SBP spokesperson Sonny Barrios.
Sotto last played for Gilas during the Olympic Qualifying Tournament-Belgrade.
The 20-year-old second generation cager is headed to Australia this week to report to Adelaide before flying home.
After the Qualifiers, Sotto will head back to Adelaide to play in the NBL Blitz and a couple of games against NBA teams in the US.
The 23rd NBL season begins on October 1.
Also part of the pool are Jordan Clarkson, the Ravena bros, Bobby Ray Parks Jr., Dwight Ramos, Carl Tamayo, Kevin Quiambao, and Francis Lopez.
