Kacey Dela Rosa nears third straight MVP after dominant UAAP Women’s Basketball first round


An MVP hat-trick is within reach for Kacey dela Rosa.

Ateneo de Manila University’s 6-foot center is currently leading the statistical points (SP) race after the first round of the UAAP Season 88 Collegiate Women’s Basketball Tournament.

The two-time MVP has amassed 96.571 SPs, thanks to her averages of 17.57 points, 15.0 rebounds, 2.86 assists, 2.43 blocks, and 1.71 steals per game, guiding the Blue Eagles to a 5-2 record.

Trailing her are National University’s Ann Pingol and Tin Cayabyab.

Pingol has accumulated 89.571 SPs with averages of 15.0 points, 9.14 rebounds, 3.86 assists, and 3.43 steals.

Meanwhile, Cayabyab is posting 18.14 points, 5.29 rebounds, 2.86 assists, and 3.14 steals per game.

University of Santo Tomas’s Kent Pastrana ranks fourth with 79.857 SPs. She has led the Growling Tigresses to a flawless first round with her contributions of 13.0 points, 6.43 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game.

Rounding out the top five is Far Eastern University’s Shemaiah Abatayo, who has 69.0 SPs with averages of 14.86 points, 5.71 rebounds, 4.57 assists, and 1.71 steals, steering the Lady Tamaraws to a 3-4 record.

The rest of the top 10 includes UST’s Brig Santos (65.714) and Oma Onianwa (62.714); NU’s Aloha Betanio (62.286); UST’s Eka Soriano (61.6); and FEU’s Amyah Espanol (61.571).
