Justin Chua is likely to sit out Game 2 of the 2023 PBA Governors’ Cup Finals as he has yet to determine the full extent of his right knee injury.
The TNT big man is scheduled for a checkup on Wednesday, which is the same day as the match at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
“I’m waiting for a check-up tomorrow afternoon since there is still swelling,” he wrote in a text message to Tiebreaker Times a day before the game.
“I probably won’t play tomorrow.”
Chua, who had three points, two rebounds, and a block as a starter, fell down at the 8:46-mark of Game 1 last Sunday and was never brought back as the Tropang Giga eventually lost, 102-90.
He left the venue with an ice pack wrapped around his right knee, but he was optimistic that he suffered nothing serious based on the team doctors’ prognosis.
“It’s not painful. It’s just that I can’t straighten it, that’s all. There’s no pain at all. I’ve had an ACL injury before, and it’s different,” he said then.
TNT is hoping for the best for Chua as the ball club would need all the help it could get upfront, with Kelly Williams still uncertain.
The former league MVP did show up in uniform last Sunday but didn’t play, and it remains to be seen if he can see action soon in the series.
Game 2 tipoff is at 5:45 PM.
