Justin Arana receives good news after second opinion: No tear in ACL

Justin Arana’s senior year with Arellano University will continue.

Arana received some good news after undergoing a second MRI on Tuesday. Dr. George Canlas himself concluded that the 6-foot-5 big man out of Camarines Norte only suffered a Grade 1 anterior cruciate ligament tear.

Arana confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times.

Grade 1 mild ligament tears mean there is only minimal microscopic tearing to the ACL, but the ligament is fully intact.

No surgery is necessary to recover from this type of injury, but Arana will have to undergo physical therapy.

Though no timetable is given for his recovery, Arana can still return to the court this season.

Initially, Arana was diagnosed with a Grade 2 partial ACL tear last Sunday. It would have taken three months for him to recover if that were the case.

Arana’s injury occurred last Sunday during the Chiefs’ clash against the San Sebastian Golden Stags.

With one minute and 49 seconds left in the game, Arana secured a rebound but his right knee buckled. The 23-year-old was stretchered out of the game.

Arana played a total of 35 minutes and 31 seconds in the contest, producing 16 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocks.
