Junna Tsukii emerged victorious once again in the female minus-50 kg kumite after winning against hometown bet Rashed Areeg, 2-1, in the finals of the Karate 1 Premier League leg in Cairo, Egypt, Sunday.
This is the second time the 29-year-old took the title in the said league after she won the leg held in Portugal just last May.
With the score level at 1-apiece, Tsukii pulled off a punch that scored a yuko for the winning score. What was notable is that there were six seconds left in the clock, leaving the Filipino champion to evade a clean attack and walk away with the victory.
Tsukki earlier topped her pool after getting the judges’ decision over Venezuela’s Yorlegis Salazar and then taking down Aleksandra Gujic of Austria, 3-1,
The 2019 Southeast Asian Games champion then got the marginal score, 1-0, against Egypt’s other karateka Reem Ahmed Salama in the pool winner’s playoff bracket to book her place into the final bout.
