Even missing a few games due to Gilas Pilipinas duties and a calf injury will not stop San Miguel Beermen star June Mar Fajardo from dominating the league, as he is on pace to bag his fourth straight Most Valuable Player award.
The 6-foot-10 slotman, who is the reigning three-time MVP, emerged as the top candidate for the coveted individual award after the 2017 Governor’s Cup elimination round, as he accumulated a total of 38.4 statistical points.
Fajardo’s highest stat points came from the 2017 Philippine Cup, where he collected 43.54 SP. He eventually won Best Player of the Conference honors that time, while the Beermen clinched their third straight All-Filipino crown.
Teammate Alex Cabagnot comes in second with 33.5 SP. The gunslinging guard was a BPC candidate in the 2017 Commissioner’s Cup, but was edged out by teammate Chris Ross in what could be one of the tightest races for the said award.
Rounding out the Top Five are Globalport Batang Pier’s face of the franchise Terrence Romeo (32.0); another Beerman and 2013 league MVP Arwind Santos (31.5); and TNT Katropa’s leader Jayson Castro (31.11).
If ever the Pinamungajan, Cebu native wins the plum, he will be tied with PBA greats Ramon Fernandez and Alvin Patrimonio for the most MVP hardware.
