2019 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers

June Mar Fajardo, Greg Slaughter watch on as Gilas resumes practice

June Mar Fajardo and Greg Slaughter attended Gilas Pilipinas’ preparations for the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, Thursday night at the Meralco Gym in Pasig City, but he was just on the sidelines.

The 7-foot slotman hurt his ankle Wednesday night in the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s 104-98 victory over the NorthPort Batang Pier, as he fell badly after a rebound play.

Slaughter was seen wearing a brace in his left ankle.

On the other hand, Fajardo, as promised, attended the session as well on the sidelines. The four-time Most Valuable Player is currently nursing a shin injury that will keep him out for two months.

Joining the Cebuano star in the sidelines is fellow center Poy Erram, who is fresh from helping his Blackwater Elite score a huge 103-100 upset over powerhouse team San Miguel Beermen, Wednesday.

The core of the 2018 Asian Games team in Asi Taulava, Paul Lee, Beau Belga, Raymond Almazan, Gabe Norwood, Christian Standhardinger, and Stanley Pringle suited up in the session.

Invitees Ian Sangalang, Scottie Thompson, Alex Cabagnot, and Marcio Lassiter as well as Gilas Elite members Allein Maliksi, Matthew Wright, and Japeth Aguilar also took part.

Gilas is preparing for Hamed Haddadi and Iran on September 13 — which is exactly a week from now — in Tehran and for Qatar on the 17th, which will be held at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
