In its third try, Capital1 finally captured the franchise’s first win in the Premier Volleyball League and for team captain Jorelle Singh, it will surely boost their confidence moving forward the 2024 All-Filipino Conference.
The Solar Spikers never lost their angst even after dropping the third set, beating fellow new squad Strong Group, 25-18, 25-20, 19-25, 25-20, on Tuesday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
“Sobrang nakakatuwa po kasi itong game na ito. Sobrang importante po sa amin kasi yun po yung makakapag-boost ng morale namin eh,” said Singh, who led Capital1 in the victory with 13 points.
Prior to this big win, the Solar Spikers were at the losing end of straight-sets matches against Chery Tiggo (25-6, 25-15, 25-15) and Farm Fresh (25-16, 25-18, 25-16).
To enter the win column would lighten the mood and remove the pressure of winning their first game on the players according to head coach Roger Gorayeb.
“Siyempre masaya kasi alam niyo naman itong team na ito, less than two months pa lang kami… Yung ganitong panalo makakapag-boost ng morale namin sa mga susunod naming laro,” said Gorayeb.
“Itong ganitong panalo medyo masarap sarap matulog, masarap mag ensayo bukas,” he continued.
However, they both know that their victory was still far from what they desired to be despite improving to 1-2 in the standings.
Gorayeb shared that the team’s chemistry still needs a lot of work as evident in their multiple miscommunications on the floor. Those contributed to their 28 errors in the one-hour and 48-minute match.
“Hirap na hirap parin kami magmula sa setter hanggang sa libero. Sabi ko nga, every day is a learning process for us. Every day, kailangan matuto kami. I learn from them, they learn from me, nang sama sama,” said the veteran tactician.
“Yung chemistry, ‘di parin ganon ka-perfect. Kailangan parin talaga namin mag-ensayo nang mag-ensayo.”
Their chemistry and bond will be tested once again on Saturday when they face the solid but off a loss PLDT at 2:00 PM.
