Joining US NCAA school not part of Kai Sotto’s plans

Though Kai Sotto still has no concrete plans on where he is headed after his US training, one thing is for certain — playing in the US NCAA is not part of the Sotto Family’s plans.

According to family patriarch Ervin Sotto, the 16-year-old wunderkind has signed with Atlanta-based agency East West Private — the same firm that handles Andray Blatche.

NCAA rules state that an amateur will no longer be deemed as one after signing with an agent.

But Ervin disclosed that being part of a US collegiate team was never part of their plans.

“Wala kasi sa plano namin maglaro sa US NCAA.

“May tinitignan kami sa US na puwede niya paglaruan pero slim yung chance na maglaro siya dun,” he said during the Chooks-to-Go-hosted send-off for his son.

For the family, the best route for Kai is to head to Europe. Clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Baskonia, Estudiantes, and Alba Berlin have expressed their intention to sign the 7-foot-2 big man.

“Kung marunong ka tumingin sa skillset ng anak ko, mas maganda talaga na mag-train siya sa Europe. Makikita mo naman sa top ten big men sa NBA, mostly mga fifty to sixty percent European,” Ervin continued.

“Kahit si Kai tanungin mo, alam niya kung san siya puwede mag-fit. Slim yung chance lang na mag US NC siya.”
