Though Kai Sotto is dead set on moving abroad, the family is still undecided on where the 16-year-old will play after his US training.
During the Chooks-to-Go-hosted send-off for the 7-foot-2 big man, his dad Ervin Sotto disclosed that the family is still weighing their options on which club they would choose to join in.
“Hindi pa alam ngayon e. Ang tinitignan muna namin is yung training niya sa US. After ng Under 19 World Cup sa June, dun na kami magdecide,” said Ervin.
“Isa sa mga option namin yung Europe, yun talaga yung tinitignan natin. Magpapalakas muna siya dun for two months.”
The family will stay in Atlanta, Georgia where Sotto’s agent East West Private is located.
Ervin is looking for this chance to help strengthen Kai.
“Ang unang stop namin is US para mag-training dahil alam naman natin na kailangan lumakas yung katawan niya. And siyempre, may height na siya at yung skills niya pati IQ, nandiyan na yun,” Ervin continued.
“As a former player, ang nakikita ko lang na kulang niya is lakas ng katawan, competition, at exposure.”
Chooks-to-Go will continue supporting Kai in this journey as Ronald Mascarinas sees him as a gift to the country.
“Everyone is a part of who Kai is today. Madaming nagtatanong kung ano yung opinion ko sa decision ni Kai, but it does not matter,” the amiable executive expressed.
“Maraming Pilipino ang nangangarap na maglaro sa PBA. Hindi iba si Kai. I can only wish that God will continue to bless Kai and his family in this very tough journey,” the president of Bounty Agro Ventures Inc continued.
“So Kai, good luck. You are a gift to our country.”
With Kai signing with an agent, he has forfeited his hopes of playing in the US NCAA.
