Jeric Teng not content with just leading Pasig-Sta. Lucia to MPBL playoffs

BIÑAN, LAGUNA — After finishing dead last in the Datu Cup, Pasig Sta. Lucia turned things around and clinched a playoffs spot in the 2019-20 Chooks-to-Go MPBL Lakan Season, Saturday at the Alonte Sports Arena here.

Leading the way for the Realtors is ex-pro Jeric Teng, averaging 27.4 points on 50 percent shooting, 6.8 rebounds, and four assists in five games this January, the most crucial month heading into the playoffs.

“We are just thankful na nakapasok kami sa playoffs given na two weeks before the season lang nabuo ang team. I am very happy kasi alam namin na pinaghirapan talaga namin ito,” the University of Santo Tomas product said.

In their playoff-clincher, he provided the spark anew with an all-around game of 30 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block.

Most importantly, Pasig punched its playoff ticket after turning back the gritty Navotas Uni-Pak Sardines, 107-100.

Last season, Pasig was at the cellar of the 26-team field behind a 4-21 win-loss card. Meanwhile, this Lakan Cup, the Realtors are at the seventh spot at 17-11.

But making the post-season is just the beginning of the journey for the Realtors as they vow to fight their way in the playoffs.

“Umpisa pa lang ito. Gagamitin ko yung experience ko sa UAAP at PBA. Up or down dapat forty minutes kaming lumalaban. Walang shortcuts sa practice, ensayo kung ensayo,” said the 28-year-old combo guard.

Pasig head coach Bong Dela Cruz, likewise, believes that making the playoffs is just the start for the stronger Pasig side.

“Last season, alam naman natin na nasa baba ang Pasig. Malaking achievement na nakapasok kami sa top eight ng North pero hindi kami magsstop doon. We will take it one game at a time,” he said.

In other games, Bicol-LCC Stores remained at the eighth-spot after escaping Quezon City-WEMSAP, 89-87, while Cebu-Casino Ethyl Alcohol remained on track for the final spot in the South with a 101-76 demolishing of Imus-Luxxe Slim.
