Muntinlupa rode a huge third-quarter surge to rout Mindoro, 107-80, in the 2021 Chooks-to-Go NBL Chairman’s Cup, Sunday at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.
Ahead by just six entering the second half, the Water Warriors just flooded the Next Gen in the third period.
Muntinlupa, led by Jed Mendoza’s 11 points, outscored Mindoro by 20 in the third, 30-10. They eventually established an insurmountable 26-point lead, 75-49.
Mendoza ended with 27 points on 11-of-18 shooting to go with four rebounds and four assists.
The Water Warriors rise to 5-2, tied with Quezon for fourth.
Biboy Enguio just missed a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds.
With both their leading scorers not starting, the Water Warriors ran away in the bench points department, 76-24.
Luigi Natada and JJ Caspe led Mindoro with 17 points apiece, but combined for eight turnovers.
Rodel Vaygan came back after missing two games. He nailed 15 points in 16 shots as the Next Gen slid to 1-5.
