Jayvee Sumagaysay atones for error: ‘Hindi ako dito matatapos’

LIPA CITY, BATANGAS — Jayvee Sumagaysay almost cost the game for Team Dasma after committing a crucial error in the final juncture of their debut match against Global Remit in the PNVF Champions League.

With the Monarchs already up 12-11 in the fifth set, the former UST standout failed to time a quick which knotted the scores.

“Nung nag-error ako — nag not over yung palo ko — sabi ko sarili ko, ‘Hindi ako dito matatapos’,” bared Sumagaysay after the match.

He then atoned for his mistake, scoring Team Dasma’s last three points — including the game-winning rejection on Joven Dela Vega that lifted the Monarchs to a come-from-behind 23-25, 25-18, 27-29 25-18, 15-12 at the Aquamarine Sports Complex on Monday night.

Knowing that his side is up against a stacked Global Remit squad which has the likes of Dela Vega, Ish Polvorosa, and Jack Kalingking, Sumagaysay made sure to keep his teammates’ spirits up in hopes of turning the game around.

Sumagaysay ended with five blocks for 11 points to lead Team Dasma to the top spot — tied with MRT Negros with 1-0 records
