Javi Gomez De Liaño, UP deal NKNU 30-point rout, gain semis berth

Continuing their tear in the 2019 BLIA Cup, Javi Gomez De Liaño was virtually unstoppable in the third canto as he lifted the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons to a 97-67 rout of host National Kaohsiung Normal University, Thursday afternoon.

Gomez De Liaño took over in the said frame as he pocketed 10 of his 25 points to put UP beyond reach in the third period.

With the win, State U has clinched the top spot in their group off a 3-0 record going into the semifinals.

It was a wire-to-wire victory for the men in black as they cruised to the double-digit advantage in the first half that reached as high as 24 off a 5-0 James Spencer blitz heading into the break.

Jun Manzo and Bright Akhuetie also contributed to the 32-17 quarter to establish the rout as the lead hit a game-high 43-point cushion, 90-47, early in the final canto.

Paras added 16 points while Manzo and Akhuetie chipped in 13 and 12 markers, respectively. Manzo also dished out seven dimes.

UP looks to sweep the group stages on Friday when it takes on National Taiwan Normal University.
