Work doesn’t stop for ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, as he finds another top-level strawweight hot on his heels.
Debuting American Jarred “The Monkey God” Brooks — considered by many as the best strawweight outside of ONE Championship— now takes aim at the current division king.
“Everybody in ONE is sneaky, and they’re good, and they have a lot of great capabilities. And I can’t wait until I can showcase my talents and have everybody in that arena just shout,” Brooks said.
“I consider myself still the best in the world, so I’m going to put my heart and put my shield out there and show everybody what’s up.”
Brooks could have made his much-anticipated debut last April against Pacio’s teammate in Lito “Thunder Kid” Adiwang. Unfortunately, the exciting Filipino had to pull out after testing positive for COVID-19.
While the match’s cancellation certainly was a downer for Brooks, he knows that he’ll get plenty of opportunities to shine in The Home Of Martial Arts. He may even possibly challenge Pacio, someone he’s been keeping an eye on for a long time.
“I think he’s a well-rounded fighter. He has a lot of capabilities, and he’s shown that he can grow,” Brooks said.
“I remember seeing Josh when he was a little bit younger, and we were liking each other’s Facebook posts and stuff.”
Brooks certainly feels impressed that Pacio is the most successful athlete in his weight class. Still, the American plans to make an example out of him.
“He is a legitimate champion.
“He’s done his dues in the division. But I’m there to rip him apart and show everybody around the world that I’m the best in the world. I love you, Josh, but I got to come in there and make my dues,” he said.
