World no. 1 e-kata karateka James De Los Santos bagged two gold medals in a day after defeating Switzerland’s Matias Moreno Dormont in both the Euro Grand Prix and the Katana Intercontinental League – Final Four on Monday.
This is De Los Santos’s 54th overall gold and 17th for the year.
In the first edition of the Euro Grand Prix, the 31-year-old veteran internationalist breezed through Unsu. He garnered 25.6 to take the first title of the day over the Swiss’ 24.32 in Suparinpei.
De Los Santos earlier topped USA’s Alfredo Bustamante in the pool 2 semifinals, 25.6-24.8, to advance into the gold medal match.
The two-time ISKF world champion then punctuated his day after winning 27.18-26.32. He denied Moreno Dormont’s upset bid in the gold medal match of the Katana Intercontinental League.
The Filipino registered 9.2’s in both technical and athletic scores for a weighted total of 18.90 in technical and 8.28 in athletic scores, respectively.
De Los Santos earlier topped his three-man pool, before again defeating Bustamante in the second round, 24.98-24.28.
His students in the Maharlika Karatedo Kai of the Philippines Inc. joined his victory. Christina Colonia bagged the silver in the female U16 kata division; meanwhile, John Adonis Colonia took the bronze of the male side of the same age group.
