Jaja Santiago, Saitama upset bid foiled by NEC in V.League


KYOTO, JAPAN — Saitama could not pull off an upset against NEC, bowing in four sets, 17-25, 25-20, 22-25, 22-25, in the 2020-21 Japan V. League Division 1 Women’s Tournament, Sunday at the Shimadzu Arena. 

Jaja Santiago had nine points built eight attacks and a block for Ageo Medics, in the match that lasted 1 hour and 50 minutes.

Yuri Yoshino and Mami Uchiseto tallied 15 points apiece in the loss. On the other hand, Shainah Joseph was limited to just 12.

Saitama fell to 3-5, while the Red Rockets took a piece of the leadership behind a 6-1 slate.

NEC spread the wealth with four players in twin digits in scoring, with Haruyo Shimamura leading the way with 17 points.

Turkish Neriman Özsoy got 16 of her own, while Sarina Koga and Keina Soga unleashed 15 and 12 markers, respectively.

Ageo Medics look to bounce back on Saturday when they face Hitachi at 2:30 pm in Ota City General Gymnasium.
