Jaja Santiago powers Ageo Medics to top seed in V.League V Cup


Jaja Santiago and Saitama Ageo Medics will enter the 2020-21 Japan V. League V Cup semifinals as the top seed of Group B.

Ageo Medics completed a five-game elimination sweep after downing Toray, 18-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-14, Sunday at the Tokorozawa Municipal Gymnasium.

Santiago, Group B’s most efficient scorer, unloaded 14 points founded on 11 attacks, two blocks, and a service ace.

Mami Uchiseto was her usual self with 20 markers, Shainah Joseph contributed 14, while Yuka Sato and Kyoko Aotagi chipped in 13 each.

This is Ageo Medics’ 12th straight victory, stretching back to Jan. 23.

Saitama will face main tournament champion JT Marvelous, Group A’s second seed in the knockout semis slated on Saturday, March 27, 3 pm, at the Ota Ward Gymnasium in Tokyo.

Shino Nakata had a game-high 23 points for the Arrows while Kanako Noro added 15 markers, but went 13-of-49 in the attacking department.

Airina Ogawa was the other Toray player in twin digits with 11 points.
