Jaja Santiago, Ageo Medics remain unblemished in V Cup

Jaja Santiago and Saitama Ageo Medics continued their immaculate run, clinching a semifinals ticket in the 2020-21 Japan V. League Division 1 V Cup Group B.

Ageo Medics handed NEC Red Rockets their first loss in the tourney in blowout fashion, 25-16, 25-11, 25-23, Saturday at the Torokozawa Municipal Gymnasium in Saitama.

The Filipina blocker didn’t have to do as much, tallying eight points built on three blocks. She also converted all but one of her six spiking attempts.

It was a balanced attack for Ageo Medics with Shainah Joseph at the forefront with 15 markers, while Mami Uchiseto added 13. Yuka Sato also chimed in 12.

Saitama moved to 4-0 with just a game remaining in the elimination round.

Ageo Medics’ outstanding play continued as they grabbed their 11th straight victory dating back to Jan. 23 in the main tournament, where they finished fifth place.

No one from the Red Rockets’ side reached double figures. Leading the way was Chinami Furuya with nine points.

NEC slid to 3-1, still in the running for the last semis ticket in the group.

Santiago and Ageo Medics look to finish the elimination round undefeated tomorrow when they face Toray, 1:30 pm, at the same Saitama arena.
