Though he has only one championship to his name, National University product J-Jay Alejandro has built a reputation as one of the most well-rounded scorers in the amateur ranks.
The 6-foot guard won his only UAAP Men’s Basketball Championship back in 2013. He has since spent the years honing his craft, capping his final season with NU with norms of 16.6 points, 6.7 assists, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game. It was enough to lift him to the All-UAAP team back in Season 80.
“Sa akin lang, I think enough na rin yung pinakita ko para ma-pick man lang this coming draft,” shared Alejandro during the Draft Combine.
Besides getting Mythical Five team honors, Alejandro was named to an elite list of amateur standouts, Chot Reyes’ 23 for 2023 Gilas Cadets.
Though an achievement in itself, the 23-year-old knows full well the pressure that comes with it.
“May pressure talaga na kasama yun, na ma-name ka kasama yung future ng Philippine basketball.”
Now, he is looking to live up to his billing.
As good as his resume is, Alejandro’s next home is up in the air. Outside of the top three prospects, it will be a free-for-all from picks number four to twelve. And all Alejandro hopes for is for his name to be called up.
“Hindi na natin hawak yan eh.”
