After reigning as the queens of the Open Conference months ago, the Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors aim to cap off Season 13 of the Shakey’s V-League with another championship run – this time in the Reinforced Conference.
Winning the Reinforced Conference title is Pocari Sweat’s ultimate goal, according to star setter and FEU alumnae Gyzelle Sy.
“Yes, yun talaga yung goal namin,” said Sy during the V-League press conference on Friday morning at the ELJ Communications Center in Quezon City, when asked about the team’s main goal for the conference.
The Lady Warriors are aware of the tight competition they will face this time around, as some of the squads they will face will parade foreign athletes as reinforcements.
And for the reigning Open Conference titlists and Sy, another goal of them this conference is to focus on each and every game they will be in, and to click as a single unit whenever they set foot on the four sides of the court.
“We will take it one game at a time,” said Sy.
“Lahat ng teams ngayon, may laban. So kung sino yung nasa court, kumbaga, kailangan magtugma.”
With regards to the team’s composition, Pocari Sweat were able to keep their core intact, with Michele Gumabao, Elaine Kasilag, Myla Pablo, and Melissa Gohing still in the mix.
The other locals are Desiree Dadang, Erika Alkuino, Maricar Nepomuceno, Sara Espelita, Rica Enclona, and fellow setter Iris Tolenada. Pocari Sweat will showcase two imports as well in Breanna Mackie and Andrea Kacsits.
When asked what Pocari Sweat’s biggest advantage would be in the upcoming import-laden conference, the diminutive floor general proudly shared that their cohesiveness as a team is one major asset they could boast of.
“Yung bonding namin as a team, iba. Buo kami hindi lang on the court pero off the court din,” said Sy.
Pocari Sweat will begin their title quest on October 5 against Air Force in the Finals rematch of the Open Conference.
