Nino Alcantara sustained his fine form as the 32nd Southeast Asian gold medalist and Japanese partner Hiroki Moriya bested hometown bets and SEAG silver medalists Christopher Rungkat and Nathan Barki, 6-2, 6-1, to rule the 2023 BNI-Medco Energi M25 International Series on Saturday evening in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The triumph is Alcantara’s second doubles title in the tour, also ruling the M24 Delhi three months ago alongside Thai partner Pruchya Isaro.
This capped Alcantara and Moriya’s dominant run in the tournament that saw them cruise through the competition.
The top-seeded duo opened their campaign with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Russia’s Savriyan Danilov and Malaysia’s Christian Chin.
They followed it up with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Indonesia’s Achad Imam Maruf and Faried Widyarohmadiansya.
In the semis, Alcantara and Moriya were made to sweat by Isaro and Greece’s Markos Kalovelonis, eventually taking a 6-4, 6-3 win.
