The injury bug couldn’t have come in a bad time for the returning UE Women’s Taekwondo team. In a tough 3-series day, UE’s Jennifer Samson and Kristine Cordova would not compete in their series against the UST Lady Jins. The Lady Jins from Espana took the series 6-1 with the sole UE win coming from Zay Cajes’ withdrawal in the lightweight match.
In finweight action, UE’s Lobaton could not manage to connect on any successful kick on Colleen Heria. Heria on the other hand connected on only 2 successful body kicks, both in the 2nd round while committing 2 kyonggos’s as well. Heria took the match with a final score of 2-1. Karen Cells led by as much as 9-4 in the 2nd round of the flyweight match. Unfortunately, she committed an 8th kyonggo to lose the match to Karen Paladin by the referee’s punitive decision. Philippine team member Nicole Cham made her UAAP Season 77 debut in a match facing-off Jane Quimora. Last year’s most valuable player coasted through Quimora with a final score of 5-3. With Cordoda, Cajes and Samson all withdrawing in their respective matches, the series score was 5-1 in favor of UST before Philippine team member Jane Narra hit the mat. Narra dominated the match against Ysabel Kate Mercado with a 13-1 win by stoppage due to point gap.
