Indonesia’s Jawato signs with B1’s Utsunomiya Brex

It’s not just Filipino players whom B.League teams are signing.

League powerhouse Utsunomiya has announced that it has signed Indonesian Brandon Jawato as its Asian Quota player for the 2021-22 season.

Jawato, 28, is a product of Hawaii University. He previously played for Pelita Jaya Bakrie Jakarta, the CLS Knights, and the Patriots.

Despite having a US passport, Jawato received clearance from the league to sign with Brex. The 6-foot-4 winger played as a local for Indonesia in a FIBA national team tournament. The same rule applied to the Gomez de Liaño brothers and Ray Parks.

Jawato played in the Manama window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers. He dropped 22 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists against Thailand. He missed the Clark window due to injury.

Utsunomiya finished in second place last season, bowing to Chiba in the finals.

Brex initially had interest in signing Kobe Paras early this year, but a deal could not come to fruition.
