ICC secures UCAL women’s crown, halts UB’s streak in men’s finals

Immaculada Concepcion College finally achieved what eluded them last season, capturing the women’s crown of the 2025 PG Flex-UCAL Season 8 Volleyball Tournament with a two-game sweep on Thursday, Nov. 27, at the Paco Arena in Manila.

The ICC Lady Blue Hawks capped their dominant run with a 25-22, 25-17, 18-25, 25-20 victory over the Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas Lady Dolphins in Game 2 of the best-of-three title series.

The championship marked ICC’s 10th consecutive win since the eliminations and their 11th overall, following last season’s sudden-death triumph over the University of Batangas.

It was indeed a memorable day for ICC, as their men’s team also ended reigning champion UB’s 21-game winning streak with a dramatic 25-22, 14-25, 25-27, 26-24, 15-11 victory to force a sudden-death match on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the same venue.

As in their 25-21, 25-18, 25-20 win in Game 1, wing spiker Jho Rence Siazon once again shone, scoring 14 points on 13 attacks and one service ace.

Three other ICC players also reached double digits: middle blocker Jeheil Moraga with 10 points, while Andrea Caparal and Filma Joy Casera contributed nine points each.

This tournament is supported by Akari, Advance Solutions Inc., Smart Sports, Spalding, Team Rebel Sports, Quintana Sports, Crane Faucet, Hapee Toothpaste, Jiang Nan Restaurant, Vital, TopFlite Academy, Maruyama, and Gerry’s Grill.

Keeping their title hopes alive, the Blue Hawks turned to veteran wing spiker Aron Deverosa, who delivered an explosive 30-point performance, including 28 attacks and two blocks.

Meanwhile, Lyceum-Batangas claimed the bronze in the men’s division with a thrilling 23-25, 25-19, 28-26, 18-25, 15-13 win over PCU-D.
