Hidilyn Diaz wins three golds in Roma World Cup, on pace for Tokyo


Sustaining her fine form from the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, Hidilyn Diaz took home three golds in the 2020 Roma Weightlifting World Cup, Tuesday in Italy. 

The 28-year-old native of Zamboanga lifted 93-kilograms in the snatch, and 119kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 212kg to sweep the women’s 55kg division.

The event is an Olympic Qualifying Tournament that boosts the ranking points of each competitor.

The enlisted Philippine Air Force personnel is currently fourth in the world in her weight class, with China’s Liao Qiuyun, Zhang Wanqiong, and Li Yajun ahead of her.

With Diaz’s dominant outing, she is now a cinch to make her fourth straight appearance in the Olympics, which takes place from July 24 to August 9 in Tokyo.

Kamila Konotop of Ukraine and Nouha Landoulsi of Tunisia completed the podium in the global meet.
