The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel will never get tired of saying how large an impact Stanley Pringle has on the team.
On Wednesday, LA Tenorio reminded yet again how big of a help the PBA’s reigning scoring champion is after Pringle helped the Gin Kings sweep Magnolia in the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals.
“Yun yung malaking resbak na nangyari sa amin,” said Tenorio of Pringle, who had 11 points and five rebounds in their 106-80 blowout of their rivals.
“The pressure na nasa akin before, at least nag-open because of Stanley.”
For Tenorio, Pringle was the missing piece of the puzzle for the crowd darlings to take down Magnolia, who have dealt them playoff heartbreaks in the 2018 Governors Cup semifinals and in the 2019 Philippine Cup quarters.
In this particular series, Pringle averaged 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 37.0 minutes of playing time.
But the veteran court general was quick to add that the 6-foot-1 guard out of Penn State is not only a major counter-attack against the Hotshots, but to the rest of the league as well.
The Gin Kings could either face Alaska or TNT in the best-of-five semifinals, which will start later this week.
“Playing in the next series against Alaska or TNT, pareho lang halos yun. Ganoon din, guard-oriented din. Alaska is almost the same as Magnolia – pressure, physical. Their guards are makukulit also, aggressive. The same as Talk ‘N Text.
“Itong trade na nangyari kay Stanley, ito yung importante for us na makapag-counter sa ibang team na nagiging problem na ever since,” Tenorio said.
