Grace Irebu dethrones Jack Animam as Women’s MVP

For the first time in five years, a National University Lady Bulldog will not be the season’s Most Valuable Player.

University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigress Grece Irebu is set to be hailed as the UAAP Season 81 Women’s Basketball Most Valuable Player.

The Congolese student-athlete will be the first non-NU student-cager to win the plum since UAAP Season 76 (Camille Sambile-FEU) to win the top individual plum in the league. Moreover, she will become the first Growling Tigress in 10 years to be crowned as MVP since Marichu Bacaro.

Irebu tallied 80.57 Statistical Points to stave off reigning MVP Jack Animam, who had 79.71 SPs.

Joining Irebu in the All-UAAP team are UST’s Sai Larosa (76.07), Adamson’s Mar Prado (74.28), and FEU’s Clare Castro (71.35).

On the other hand, UST’s Tantoy Ferrer will be crowned as the top freshman, as she accumulated 48.92 SPs.

The Women’s Basketball Awarding Ceremony will be held before Game 2 of the Finals.
