After a long wait, the University of the East Red Warriors finally have a head coach.
Decorated High School head coach Goldwin Monteverde has been introduced to the Red Warriors as the chief tactician of the UE Men’s Basketball Team come the 81st Season of the UAAP, according to multiple source.
Tiebreaker Times sources confirmed the reports of Spin.ph.
“He was already introduced to the team this week,” said a source closely monitoring the situation.
Monteverde takes over from the post left by Derrick Pumaren last November 22. Under Pumaren, the Red Warriors did not make the Final Four — compiling a 21-35 record during his four-year stay in UE.
Other candidates for the post include Koy Banal, Johnny Abarrientos, and Allan Caidic.
Currently, Monteverde is the head coach of the Nazarene School of National University Bullpups. The Bullpups are currently second in the standings with an 11-3 record.
This is Monteverde’s third move to a UAAP-member school. Back in 2016, he was part of Adamson University’s high school program.
It is still unknown if Monteverde will remain with NU after this season.
