Golden Tradition: Aries Toledo completes comeback for decathlon glory

Following the footsteps of great Filipino decathletes, the last of whom was Jeson Ramil Cid, Aries Toledo continued the rich line.

Toledo came from a slim nine-point deficit at the end of the penultimate event of the javelin throw, to turn in a rousing run in the 1500 meters and eventually steal the gold off Sittisak of Thailand, Wednesday evening in Bukit Jalil Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Filipino then cruised to a 4:39.79 finish in the last event, while the leader slipped further, thereby sealing the gold for the Philippines. Toledo amassed 6849 points against the Thai’s 6678 to get the country’s ninth mint of the Games.
