Jamie Malonzo could be back in action this Sunday.
Ginebra has activated the athletic winger ahead of their clash versus San Miguel as the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s resumes action.
Game time is scheduled at 7:30 PM at the SMART Araneta Coliseum, which – if he checks in – would be his first game back after about nine long months.
The 28-year-old last played back on April 14, helping the Kings beat NorthPort, 95-88, in a Season 48 Philippine Cup match-up at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
It was in that same game where his left leg gave way with only 5.3 seconds left to play, and would soon be ruled out of the season as he suffered a calf injury.
The unfortunate development halted what was a solid conference for him as he averaged 14.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists before being out.
Malonzo’s injury also kept him from joining Gilas in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament and the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers’ second window.
Now with a more bulked-up physique as per the doctors’ advice, the former La Salle star will look to help Ginebra hike its 4-2 record against the Beermen.
His reactivation should be the start of key cogs coming back to the Barangay as Isaac Go, grounded by a foot injury, is also targeted for a January return.
Malonzo’s comeback should bode well for the men’s national team, too, especially with the third window of the Asia Cup Qualifiers set next month.
