Gilas Women exit first FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series after tough loss to Austria

Gilas Pilipinas Women 3×3 bowed out of their maiden FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series campaign, falling to world No. 18 Austria, 12-18, in Ulaanbaatar on Friday.

Despite the loss, it was still a gallant stand for the Uratex-backed squad as the Filipinas kept pace with the Austrians until the midway point of the contest.

Leading 8-7 with 5:04 remaining, the duo of Simone Sill and Alexia Allesch took charge, delivering a decisive 9-2 run with a barrage of inside points.

Sill proved to be too much for Gilas, tallying 10 points while Allesch added six.

Sam Harada and Hazelle Yam led the way for Gilas with four points apiece. Allana Lim, returning to national team duties, contributed three points as well.

Kaye Pingol, who totaled 24 points in the group stages, was a marked woman, managing just a solitary point in this contest.

Gilas entered the knockout stages as the last entry from Pool A after going 1-2 in the group stages.

The Philippines began their campaign with a 21-10 loss to host Mongolia before bouncing back with a 21-12 victory against Mongolia U23.

Gilas fought hard but ultimately bowed to Ukraine, 21-16.

The Scores:

Philippines 12 – Harada 4, Yam 4, Lim 3, Pingol 1.

Austria 18 – Sill 10, Allesch 6, Zderadicka 2, Kalaydjiev 0.
