Fans will have to wait for a couple more months before seeing the new Gilas Pilipinas jerseys, to be made by adidas, in all of its glory.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas executive director Erika Dy said that the uniforms won’t be shown until the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2025.
And so, it means that the Gilas Pilipinas Women will have the privilege of having first dibs on the highly anticipated threads and parade them in the continental showpiece set to take place on July 13-20 in Shenzhen, China.
“It’s going to be the women’s [team] — who will be playing first on July 13 in Shenzhen, China — who will play with the official uniform,” she offered.
Dy said as much moments after the SBP’s annual national congress on Friday at the Meralco Multi-Purpose Hall in Pasig, where the federation formally announced the brand with the three stripes as its new official outfitter.
There has been much excitement among netizens online with the link-up, with many waiting to see how the jerseys would appear after the national team programs, most especially the men’s side, wore Nike for nearly 20 years.
Some in particular are wondering if the Philippines’ tricolors will make their way back after the last unis made by the Swoosh drew mixed reactions.
For starters, critics did not appreciate the shades of blue and yellow utilized in the jerseys given to Gilas Men for the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments, saying that it was far from the colors of the national flag.
Asked for at least a close on how the adidas Gilas jerseys would look like, Dy declined to give out any so as to not spoil anything.
“Surprise na lang,” she said with a chuckle. “That’s part of the excitement, the buildup. But adidas is preparing very well for it.”
