GenSan-Burlington silences Pasay to gain solo third in MPBL South

GenSan-Burlington halted its two-game skid at the expense of home team Pasay, 76-69, in the 2019-20 Chooks-to-Go MPBL Lakan Season at the Cuneta Astrodome, Wednesday.

The Warriors leaned on a late 9-0 run — with six coming from Robby Celiz — to turn a 63-65 deficit to a 72-65 advantage with 50.5 seconds left in the game.

“Naniniwala kasi ako na laging mayroong isang quarter na nakalaan para sa amin. Thankfully, the boys stuck to the game plan and played hard-nosed defense. That’s what we prepared the past week,” said GenSan assistant coach Ramon Pido on their late-game execution.

Pido took over coaching chores for GenSan since head coach Rich Alvarez was still out of the country.

The Warriors turned to their bench for additional firepower, outscoring Pasay’s reserves, 43-29.

Pamboy Raymundo registered 23 points on a very efficient 8-of-12 shooting clip, alongside four rebounds and three dimes. GenSan leapfrogged Basilan and Zamboanga for the third seed in the South with a 16-8 win-loss standing.

Celiz contributed 17 points, 11 boards, and five assists. Meanwhile, Daryl Goloran and Cristopher Masaglang added seven markers apiece.

Ron Lastimosa tallied 16 points, while Axel Iñigo chipped in 14.

Pasay retained the ninth spot in the North at 13-12.
