Gelo Vito powers Wangs past Perpetual for 2nd straight win

Riding the hot hands of Gelo Vito, Wangs Basketball scored back-to-back wins in the 2019 PBA D-League with a 75-64 drubbing of Perpetual Tuesday at JCSGO Gym in Cubao.

Vito topscored for the Couriers with 19 points on a 3-of-5 shooting clip from threes, as well as seven rebounds.

But it was Arvin Tolentino who took matters to his own hands in the fourth quarter, igniting the 9-0 tear that turned a 56-55 deficit for Wangs to a 64-56 advantage with 4:58 left on the game clock.

He wound up with 11 points, nine coming in the payoff period, on top of nine rebounds.

Radge Tongco chipped in 11 points, eight rebounds, and two assists, while Axel Inigo had 10 points, five assists, and three boards.

“Masyadong inspired ang mga bata. Gusto nilang manalo,” said coach Pablo Lucas as his side claimed back-to-back victories. “Sabi ko nga, kailangan natin makuha yung panalo para gumanda ang positioning natin. Nag-stick lang kami sa gameplan.”

Wangs rose to 3-1 to join Metropac-San Beda and Valencia-SSCR at joint second in the Foundation Group.

Edgar Charcos chucked 15 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and four steals in the losing cause for Perpetual (1-3).
