Coming off a heartbreaking loss to Malaysia yesterday, Gilas Pilipinas Women bounced back, making sure to end their 2022 FIBA Under-18 Women’s Asian Championship Division B campaign strong.
The young Filipinas vented their ire on Samoa with an 84-68 victory, Sunday at Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in Bangalore, India.
Down 41-31 at the half, Sumayah Sugapong carried the cudgels for Gilas, scoring 11 of her 27 points in the quarter.
Gilas went on a 22-4 rally during that quarter to gain a 53-45 lead.
The Philippines pushed the lead to as high as 16 points to end the game.
Sugapong, a UC Davis-commit, tallied nine steals and six rebounds as well.
Louna Ozar also capped her first-ever Gilas run with 15 points on four triples with six rebounds and four steals while Kristan Yumul added 14 points.
Ashley Loon and designated naturalized player Kate Bobadilla chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Malia Ruud led Samoa with 30 points and 13 rebounds.
