Ateneo de Manila University will not have its lead point guard for UAAP Season 86.
Forthsky Padrigao will miss the upcoming season as he is on “academic probation.”
Though the incoming junior was able to meet the UAAP standards for student-athletes, the 21-year-old was not able to reach the quality point index (QPI) for sophomores in Ateneo.
In Ateneo, students who are on academic probation are not allowed to join any extra-curricular activities, including joining organizations and varsity teams, so that he or she can focus on studies.
One more failed year will result in expulsion from the school.
This was also the same case Thirdy Ravena (UAAP Season 78), Raffy Verano, and Jolo Mendoza (Season 82) had.
Padrigao will be a big loss for Ateneo’s title-retention bid in the UAAP.
Last season, the 6-foot guard made it to the Mythical Team, averaging 11.61 points, 4.94 assists, 4.22 rebounds, and 2.22 steals for the season.
Tasked to fill the shoes left by Padrigao are Jared Brown and Ian Espinosa.
