Fifi Sharma plays down win big win over NU: ‘We still have to focus on a singular goal’

De La Salle University must be on cloud nine after a first round sweep and a straight sets beatdown of reigning champion National University to top it.

That’s what others might think but not the Lady Spikers.

La Salle finally earned its payback from the Lady Bulldogs, who swept them all four times they clashed in Season 84, but it’s just one win.

And the job’s just getting started with a first round sweep as the championship is not yet within reach with another seven games to go through before the Final Four phase.

“Wag masyadong i-sensationalize yung mga wins like this kasi there are many other games that we have to go through in order to get to what we need to achieve,” said Fifi Sharma after their 25-10, 25-15, 25-21 win over NU on Wednesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

“We still have to focus on a singular goal which is to get the championship this season.”

That’s what interim head coach Noel Orcullo and his staff also reminded the girls after the big win – return to their normal routine.UAAP85-WVB-Fifi-Sharma-Mars-Alba-7803961 Fifi Sharma plays down win big win over NU: 'We still have to focus on a singular goal' DLSU News UAAP Volleyball - philippine sports news

It can be remembered that after University of Santo Tomas defeated NU early this season and broke the latter’s 20-game winning streak, the Golden Tigresses suffered a straight sets defeat to Adamson University.

“Kami naman lagi naming pinapaalala na, ‘Oh, tapos na itong game na ito, iba na yung susunod na game, hindi tayo puwede na nasa cloud nine.’ Laging ang paalala namin kapag tayo nanalo sa big game kailangan baba agad. Hindi pupwedeng iisipin pa natin yun sa mga susunod na araw dahil may pinaghahandaan tayo,” shared Orcullo.

Despite the flawless record, Orcullo said that La Salle can still improve more heading into the second round.

He also noted that the Lady Spikers must always take advantage of their net defense after continuing to lead the blocking department league-wide.

“Kung kaya pang ilessen yung errors, hopefully magawa pa namin. Darating din naman talaga yung errors eh so sana sa susunod na mga games namin maminimize pa kung kaya,” said Orcullo.

“Yung blocking nandoon pa rin naman kami talaga yun talaga yung… sabi nga namin kung ano yung strength natin kailangan pangatawanan natin yun.”
