FIBA: Bahay’s 25-9 outing not enough to propel Gilas U16 past Korea

Jared Bahay’s sensational game was not enough to lift Gilas Pilipinas’ under-16 team past Korea, bowing 77-88, in the classification phase of the 2022 FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship, Saturday at
Al-Gharafa Sports Club Multi-Purpose Hall in Doha, Qatar.

Bahay tallied 25 points on 13-of-13 shooting from the charity stripe and nine assists but the young Pinoys could not contain the firepower of South Korea late.

Down by just four heading into the final frame, Ku Mingyo gained the hot hand, leading a Korean rally that gave them an 86-72 edge in the closing moments of the game.

Ku led Korea with 21 points, seven assists, and four rebounds while Lee Yujin went 7-of-7 from the field for 17 markers.

Zain Mahmood added 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting and six rebounds while Caelum Harris chipped in 10 points and six rebounds.

Gilas dropped to the seventh-place game, facing the loser of the Iran-India game. The game will happen on Sunday.
