FIBA: Gilas Women complete U18 pool sweep with 82-point win over Maldives

Gilas Pilipinas Women’s Under-18 squad will head to the semifinals of the 2022 FIBA Asian Championship Division B unscathed, completing their masterful run in the pool stages with a dominant 110-28 whipping of the Maldives, Wednesday at Koramangala Indoor Stadium in India.

The Philippines gained an outright semis berth in the tournament that has one Division A slot at stake. The semis will begin on Saturday, September 10.

Coming off a dominant 65-50 win over Thailand two days ago and a thrilling 66-59 triumph over Samoa yesterday, the young Gilas girls did not let the Maldives gain any footing right from the get-go, racing to a 21-6 lead to end the opening frame.

The lead went to as high as 85 points as Gilas never allowed the Maldives to breach double-figures in any quarter.

It was another nightmare outing for the Maldives as it shot just 10-of-40 from the field while committing a whopping 64 turnovers. The Maldives dropped to the classification phase of the tournament.

Five players reached double-figures in scoring for the Philippines with Louna Ozar leading the way with 22 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field.

Ryhanna Calvert and Kate Bobadilla both got 17 points apiece, with the former also grabbing 11 rebounds and netting seven steals.

Ashley Loon filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and seven steals. Meanwhile, Kalynee Abraham registered a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Ana Aminath Simad was the sole bright spot for the Maldives with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field.
